SILVER PLATED PAUA SHELL NECKLACE

A RARE OCEAN FIND
The color in a pāua shell isn't painted on or dyed in. It's the shell itself. As the pāua grows, it builds its shell in very thin layers, and light reflecting off those layers is what brings out the color. The thickness of each layer and the angle of the light create the pāua’s distinct iridescence. Where the layers are thinnest, the shell looks violet and blue; where they're thicker, it looks green. And because no shell grows perfectly evenly, the color seems to shift and move as it catches the light. Pāua is gathered by hand from the cold coastal waters of New Zealand, where the species is carefully protected. The shells in our Pāua Shell Collection were hand-chosen 15 to 20 years ago for that play of color, and never altered. None are dyed, color-enhanced, laminated, veneered, or coated in resin, so the color belongs to the shell alone. No two are ever the same.

This necklace is plated in the USA with .999 pure silver. Because each pāua shell is unique, the chain you receive will be assorted—its thickness thoughtfully selected to best complement the individual shape and character of your shell.
