ECO-FRIENDLY WEARABLE ART
There is no other shell in the world that has the rich and varied iridescent colors of the pāua. This shell is found only in the cold coastal waters of New Zealand and collection of pāua is strictly regulated. Free-diving in the frigid water is the only permitted method, reflecting a long-standing practice of respect for the ocean. The pāua used in Leaf & Light jewelry was hand-chosen in New Zealand between 15 and 20 years ago for its beauty, iridescence, shape, and color, either by beach-combing or as a by-product of a carefully managed seafood harvest.
None of the shells used by Leaf & Light are dyed, color-enhanced, laminated, veneered, or backed with plastic resin coatings— treatments commonly used in mass-produced jewelry. Instead, every pāua shell is naturally one-of-a-kind and reveals its own unique play of shape, iridescence, and waves of ocean hues—no two are the same.
This necklace also features hand-forged "green" sterling silver that was either recycled or domestically responsibly sourced.
